Police and Firemen's Insurance Association's scholarship program is administered
by Scholarship Management Services, a division of Scholarship America.
Scholarship Management Services is the nation's largest designer and manager of
scholarship and tuition reimbursement programs for corporations, foundations,
associations and individuals. Awards are granted without regard to race, color,
creed, religion, sexual orientation, gender, disability or national origin.
To be eligible, applicants must be students who plan to enroll, or are already
enrolled, in a full-time undergraduate course of study at an accredited two- or
four-year college, university, or vocational-technical school. Applicants must be the
natural or legally adopted children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, or
stepchildren of members in good standing with the Association. Applicants must
also hold a legal reserve life insurance policy with the Association as of May 1,
2010. The member must also hold a Certificate of Insurance that has been in effect
for at least six months.
Recipients are selected based on academic record, demonstrated leadership and
participation in activities, work experience, statement of future goals, unusual
personal or family circumstances, and an outside appraisal. If selected as a
recipient, the student will receive a $1,000 award. Awards are renewable for up to
three additional years provided the student maintains a 2.5 cumulative grade point
average on a 4.0 scale in a full-time undergraduate program and their insurance
policy, as well as the member's insurance policy, remains active. Awards may be
used for tuition and academic fees.
Applications are now available for the 2010-2011 academic year. To request an
application request form, contact Dan Cotroneo at: dan@cotroneo.net or call his
office at: 651-560-0010.
Completed request forms must be sent to Scholarship America, postmarked no
later than May 1, 2010. Please complete the application fully and return it to
Scholarship America postmarked by May 15, 2010.
Scholarship recipients will be notified by June 30, 2010. On, or about August 15th,
Scholarship America will mail a check for half the scholarship amount, payable to
the school for the student. The remaining amount will be paid on, or about, January
1, 2011. Scholarship America must be notified in writing of extenuating
circumstances affecting either payment.
